User profiles help system administrators control who can access specific areas, resources, or functions within a system.
By assigning unique profiles to individuals, you can customize access permissions to match their roles and responsibilities.
This helps prevent unauthorized access, reduces potential security breaches, and keeps a detailed record of user activities.
Whether it’s about physical security, such as building access, or digital security, like data access levels, managing profiles follows the same principles. I
n this guide, we will show how to create and delete profiles on Hikvision devices. The steps are identical regardless of the model of your NVR, DVR, or IP camera.
To start, open Internet Explorer and log into your security system. (You may also use other browsers). Type in the IP address of the system and log in using your username and password.
Once logged in, locate and click on the “Configuration” tab at the top right corner of the screen, which is highlighted in red for easy identification (see the screenshot below).
In the configuration menu, select “System” and then choose “Camera Management.”
This will display your admin profile and any other existing profiles if you have multiple accounts set up on the security camera system.
By clicking on each individual profile, you can either modify or delete the profile from there.
Also, you can click Add to add more than just an admin profile to the system. For example, you will see we have an admin profile and demo profile for testing purposes.
To create a new profile, click on the option to add a new profile.
You can then specify the access permissions for this profile, such as which areas, resources, or functionalities the user can access.
These permissions can be adjusted to match the user’s role and responsibilities within your organization.
User Name: Name the profile.
Level: Have the account either be an operator or a user.
Admin Password: Enter the admin account password.
Password: Create a unique password for this account meeting the criteria.
Checkboxes: These checkboxes are the amount of access you are allowing to the account. It will depend on the organization’s structure or the trust you have on this person.
Different accounts may have different permissions, such as watching certain cameras only, no playback allowed, etc.
Once you have configured the profile settings, save your changes. The new profile is now active and can be used to control access to your security system.
Learning how to add and remove profiles in your security system gives you the power to manage access, reduce risks, and uphold the security of your environment, whether it’s your home or a busy office.
By following the steps in this guide, you can easily handle profile management and help create a safer, more secure system for your residence (or business).
