You may have noticed a yellow triangle symbol on your ADT DSC Impassa Alarm system and probably you want to know what it means. Sometimes this yellow triangle is followed by the system beeping twice every 10 seconds.
Let’s get straight to the answer. The yellow triangle on the ADT Alarm system is known as the trouble light. If you see this symbol on your alarm panel, it means that there’s an issue with the system that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
There are seven different issues that are noted by the yellow triangle symbol (the so-called trouble condition). To find out what kind of problem your alarm system is experiencing, simply press *2 (star then 2) on your keypad. Once you press that code, your zone light should light up and the panel will display any trouble issues.

If the beeping is bothering you, you can press the # symbol on the keypad and the warning sound will get silenced. Below we’ve listed the most common issues that you should check when you see the yellow triangle on the ADT alarm panel.
AC Power Loss – The system is not getting powered. You’ll know this because the keypad will not make any beeping sound, but it will light up (using the backup battery).
Check the power outlet where the system is plugged in, inspect the cable, and make sure nothing is loose. To test it out, you may try to charge your phone from the same outlet (to see if there’s power).
Low Battery – It means that one of your zones is running on a low battery, the panel will tell you which zone exactly is having an issue. All you have to do is replace the battery.
Buy a replacement battery online (take out the old one and purchase the same model, usually, the battery is CR123A). After replacing the battery, disarm and arm the system.
Phone Connection – It indicated that there could be a problem with the telephone line. Check your phone line and ensure that it’s working properly.
Communication Fault – The panel and ADT central station aren’t communicating properly. You can call ADT support to perform a test or investigate the issue further.
Zone is open – One of the zones has an issue. Press 5 on the keypad to see which zone is currently experiencing trouble. Then go to that area and inspect the contacts or whatever device is running there.
Zone Tamper – One of your zones has been tampered with. Press 6 on the keypad and the system will display the zone that is having issues.
Time and Date – Your system clock is incorrect. Simply update to the correct time and date. To change the time on the clock on the ADT DSC Impassa Alarm system you need to press star*-6-your mastercode-1.
Then enter HH:MM and MM/DD/YY. Then press # when you are done. This alarm system accepts military time format only ( for example 7PM = 19:00 hours).
As you can see, you can fix the majority of the issues by yourself and usually, it may take a while for the beeping to go away (there’s no need to do anything, the system will automatically get silenced).
The yellow triangle indicates various trouble that your alarm system may experience, check carefully the display to find out what the issue is exactly.
If you can’t fix the problem or if no error message shows up on the panel after you press *2, then just call ADT Customer Service for help.
Their phone number is 1-800-238-2727 and they can be reached any time of the day. They will need to verify your identity and you should expect to give them your secret passcode.
