Amcrest Default Password

May 1, 2021
in Amcrest

This guide shows the Amcrest default password, the Amcrest camera default IP address, and how to modify them. The process is quite simple and just takes a few minutes to complete.

There are various Amcrest models of DVRs and NVRs on the market that use different default usernames and passwords. Actually, the latest Amcrest recorders don’t come with a password, you create one once you run the recorder for the first time. Below we’ve listed the default accounts and the passwords for Amcrest DVR or NVR. Below we’ve listed the default accounts and the passwords for Amcrest DVR or NVR.

Amcrest default password

The default username and password for Amcrest DVR/NVR and IP cameras are “admin” for both. However, Amcrest recorders come with various types of accounts (admin, guest, user). Check the list below and try them out in your recorder or standalone IP camera.

  • username: admin and password: admin (Type of the account: Master User)
  • username: admin and password: 888888 (Type of the account: Administrator)
  • username: admin and password: 666666 (Type of the account: Guest user)
  • username: default and password: default (Type of the account: Hidden)

Only the admin account works via the web browser and the rest work only when typed directly on the recorder. For example, the account “888888” doesn’t work on the web interface but works locally.

Also, the Amcrest IP cameras use only the admin account (the reset of the accounts listed above are applicable to recorders only).

The default password for the latest Amcrest DVRs/NVRs and IP cameras

The new generation of Amcrest DVRs and NVRs are shipped out without any password or as they call the recorders are “inactive”. The end-user or the installer has to initialize and create a new password once the recorder runs up for the first time.
Amcrest Default PasswordDuring the Startup Wizard, you will be able to set up the Admin Password (The default Username for the Administrator Account is “admin”). Make sure to select a strong password that meets the requirements of your system.

On some versions, on the Login Setup screen, you also will be required to enter a recovery email to be used in case you lose or forget your password. Also, you can set up security questions to recover your password.

Amcrest Default IP Address

Amcrest’s default IP address is 192.168.1.108. All the IP cameras, NVRs, DVRs come with this IP address. Obviously, you need to modify the IP address of the camera and match it with your own network.

We will demonstrate easily how to change the default IP address of the camera. So, we have a camera and this camera is connected to a PoE switch, the laptop is getting the internet from the same switch (or router where this switch is connected to). For illustration, check the picture below.

As you can see the camera is connected to the PoE switch (or router) and the laptop/computer is getting the internet from the same switch/router.

Change Amcrest’s camera IP address

To change the default IP address you need to use Amcrest’s IP config tool which is the same as the Dahua configuration tool and can be downloaded here. Once it’s downloaded to your laptop, install it and then run the software.

Basically, this tool will scan the local network and list any IP cameras, DVRs, NVRs found on the network. In our case, we see a few devices there, find the one that is a camera (camera icon and the IP address 192.168.1.108).

Select it and click Login (or double click), type the camera’s default username and password. Once you do that, you should see the next window which is shown below. From there you can modify the IP address of the camera, subnet mask, and gateway.

Match the IP format of your network. If your router’s IP address is 192.168.0.1 then the camera’s IP address should be modified to 192.168.0.xxx (where xxx is a random number from 2 to 254). If your router’s address is 192.168.1.1 then you can change the camera’s IP address to 192.168.1.110.

To change the Amcrest’s camera password, just log in to the camera via the web browser using the default password and then modify it to the account section. Additionally, you can change it via the configuration tool as well.

Conclusion

Following the guide above you can change the default password or IP address of Amcrest cameras. Never use the default password, always change it and make sure to use a strong one (combination of letters, numbers, and special characters). If you’re stuck, contact Amcrest (or the seller) for technical support.
