There are many reasons why you may need to factory reset your Amcrest NVR. Many issues or errors that look unsolvable, can be fixed by bringing the NVR to the factory defaults. Also, you can reset the recorder if you have lost or forgotten the password.
Once the machine is reset you can create a new password. Resetting an Amcrest NVR is easy and the procedure can be done in 5 minutes.
The factory reset procedure shown on this article works for these Amcrest NVR models:
- NV2104-HS, NV2108-HS, NV2116-HS series
- NV2104E-HS, NV2108E-HS and NV2116E-HS series
How to factory reset an Amcrest NVR
To start the physical factory reset procedure, you will need to remove the NVR’s top cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove all the screws on the back and sides of the recorder. Once the top cover is off, you’ll see the motherboard of the unit.
On the motherboard, find a small black button which is the reset button (it’s often called the factory reset switch). Check the picture below, the reset button is marked with a red square.
To factory reset the Amcrest NVR, hold the reset button down and unplug the NVR from power. Once the power cord is removed from the unit, continue holding the factory reset switch for 10 seconds, then still continuing to hold the reset switch, plug the power cord (supply) back into the unit.
You should hear a beep. Continue holding the reset button and allow the device to initialize for 20 – 30 seconds and then release the button once the system finishes loading up.
Once the system is running again, the unit will be on it’s factory default settings: no password, no other CCTV settings, you can start from scratch.
Create a new password and do the rest of the settings. If for some reason the reset procedure didn’t go through, try again one more time .
