If you own an Arlo camera, you probably have noticed that the camera records clips that last 10 seconds only and that can be a big problem for many users. Ten seconds is not a lot of time. While a frustrating issue, it can be fixed easily by adjusting the settings.
By default, Arlo records motion detection, which enables the camera to save a lot of space. So, the 10 seconds length saves storage space and allows the user to get more recording days from the system.
However, many users complain about this 10-second clip and want to extend their recording length. In this article, we will show how to fix the 10 seconds clips issue on Arlo cameras.
The recording period on Arlo cameras is adjustable and can be between 10 and 120 seconds in length. In other Arlos cameras (such as Arlo Pro, Arlo Q, etc) the recording length can go until the motion stops. In these models, the recording time can go up to 5 minutes (300 seconds).
How to change Arlo video recording length?
Step 1. Launch the Arlo app and log in using your account credentials.
Step 2. On the top click the Mode button.
In this step, you need to choose the mode. Clicking on the mode button is important because in this way you can select the mode you need for solving this issue.
Step 3. Select the base station or camera that you want to adjust. Then click the pencil icon next to Armed Mode.
Note: Not all modes can be modified. For example, you can’t adjust the length for disarmed or even scheduled modes. But you can adjust the active modes (such as the Armed Mode)
Step 4. Tap the pencil icon next to the camera you want to edit. It’s not recommended to set the same settings for all your cameras, set them individually according to your needs.
Step 5. Tap the pencil icon next to Record Video. There are two options listed: Record Video or Do Nothing.
Step 6. Modify the video length. This is where you adjust the video length by moving the on-screen scroller.
You can do one of the two options:
Record until activity stops (up to 300 sec): Select this option if you want to have a full clip recorded. This will increase the amount of recorded footage stored in the cloud or locally (in other words: fewer days will be recorded).
Record for a fixed length of time: Adjust to the desired length (in seconds). This will enable you to limit the amount of recording, but you may miss relevant footage.
Hit Save to apply the settings. And that’s all, now the camera will record following your settings. Keep in mind, the battery life of the camera (if battery-powered) will take a hit. The more clips recorded, the faster the battery will expire. So, try to keep it balanced.
