How to Turn Off the Blue Light on Blink Camera

Blink cameras are a good solution at an affordable price to keep your family and premises safe. You can monitor your important areas through the phone and have the footage recorded on the cloud (or SD card).

There’s a bright blue LED light on the Blink camera called a status light that turns on and lets other people know about the presence of the camera.

Actually, the blue light serves as a visible indicator to let the camera’s owner know that the system is recording (who wants a camera that doesn’t record?).

Many people try to keep their cameras discreet or not easily noticeable and this blue light gives away the camera’s function. If you don’t want to alert people that they are being recorded, there’s an option where you can switch this blue LED light off.

In some situations, it’s better to turn off the light. In this quick guide, we will show you how to disable the blue light on your Blink camera.

How to Turn Off Blue Light on Blink Cameras

Turning off the blue light depends on the Blink camera model that you own. Below we’ve shown the steps for each camera type.

Turn off the blue light on Blink Outdoor Camera

The easiest way to turn off the blue LED light on your Blink camera is through the phone app.

  • Open up the Blink app on your phone.
  • Navigate to Camera Settings.
  • Locate the Status LED option.
  • On the Recording and Off section, choose Off for the Status LED setting.
  • Close the app and the LED light should no longer show on the camera.

For these two camera models, the procedure is a little bit different. Go through the steps listed below.

First, you need to remove the battery cover. One sample is shown in the picture below. Usually, there are inscriptions on the back that will instruct you how to take out the cover.

  • There you should see the camera’s label (serial number), on the right, there’s a switch that says “REC LED” and two options ON and OFF. The factory setting for this camera is set to ON.
  • Using a toothpick or a pair of small tweezers, move the switch’s position from ON to OFF.
  • Place the camera’s cover back on, and check the blue light. It should be turned off.

Turn off the blue light on Blink Mini

The Blink Mini camera is not suitable for outdoor use, but if that blue light is bothering you way too much, there’s a way to turn it off. (Just a reminder, if you use this type of camera outdoors you may void the warranty). Follow the steps below to disable the light.

By default, when the Blink Mini is not recording and ready to use, it will show a green light. When it’s recording, the blue LED light comes on.

  • Open up the Blink app on your phone.
  • Navigate to Camera Settings.
  • Locate Status LED and choose the Off option. After that, no blue LED will be displayed while the camera is recording.

If for some reason the blue light doesn’t turn off, especially if you disable it through the app, then you need to make sure that the app and the camera itself are updated to the latest firmware

. So, check the settings and update both of them. After that, try again to disable it via the option on the app. Normally, the blue light should disappear.

Some users have reported that on certain occasions the blue light doesn’t turn off unless the camera is power cycled.

First, you need to turn off the blue light on the settings (on the app), then power off the camera, wait 60 seconds, and then power it back on. Wait and see if the blue light is permanently off.

If the light is still there, you need to contact Blink’s customer support for assistance. You can email them through the official website. Or you can even visit the Blink Community, where you may find other people that had the same issue and follow through with their recommendations.

Conclusion

The blue light serves as an indicator letting the user know that the recording is working fine and that the videos are actually being stored. But in some situations, the blue LED light may make the camera too visible, or just it’s bothersome.

In that case, you can turn off the blue light by disabling the option on Blink’s app, or by switching it off manually (for the models that come with this feature). Overall, it’s super easy to get rid of the blue light.
