Sometimes the UNV cameras may exhibit errors or technical issues that cannot be solved even if you adjust the settings or update the firmware.
It happens with electronics all the time, you’re doing everything correctly but still, it doesn’t work properly. One way to forget everything and start from scratch is doing a factory default on the camera.
A factory default means that all the camera’s settings will be erased, including the user accounts and the passwords.
The camera will be in factory condition and you can start the setup from the beginning, thus totally erasing any previous issues with the camera.
In this guide, we will show step by step how to factory default a Uniview camera by accessing the camera via the web browser or going through the recorder directly.
Keep in mind, this is not a password reset procedure. if you don’t know the password for the camera, you can’t factory default it.
The guide assumes that you already know the credentials for your camera or NVR. If you have lost the password, check this article instead.
Factory Default UNV camera via the web browser
To access the interface of the UNV camera, use a Windows-based PC (or laptop) and use Internet Explorer as the web browser.
Type the IP address of the camera on the URL bar of Internet Explorer. The path should look like the following: “http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”.
If the HTTP port has been changed from the default, you will need to add the port number after the IP address by inserting a colon “:” in between the address and port number. For example: http:192.168.1.30:82 (where 82 is the HTTP port).
Install all requested web plugins that are prompted by Internet Explorer. You may install the plugin by selecting “Run”.
Once the installation is done, you may need to refresh or restart Internet Explorer. In some cases, you may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.
Open up Internet Explorer, type the camera’s IP address again and you should see the login screen as shown below. Enter your username and password to log in.
After logging in, select the “Setup” option on the top of the interface (noted below with the red square).
On the Setup page, select Camera on the left-hand side menu.
After selecting Camera, select the Advanced tab on the Camera menu.
On the Advanced menu, there is an option to see the cameras and factory default them respectively. You will receive a popup prompt wanting to confirm the default request as well prior to defaulting it completely.
Click OK to continue. The camera will enter the factory default process which takes a few minutes. Then it will auto-reboot and come back online with all the settings going to factory default.
Basically, it’s like having a new camera and you need to start the camera’s setup process from scratch.
Factory Default UNV camera via NVR or DVR (local interface)
It’s possible to factory default a Uniview camera using the NVR’s (or DVR’s) local user interface. The logic is the same as the procedure shown above.
Log into the system by entering the username and password. Default credentials are admin for the username and 123456 for the password. If you have changed the default password, enter the new one.
After logging in, move the mouse to the lower left-hand corner of the screen and select the home icon which brings you to the main menu.
Sometimes, you may receive the login screen after selecting the menu option, but will be taken to the main menu page once logged in. On the main menu, select the Camera tab.
On the Camera page, select the Advanced tab on the top sub-menu.
Scroll the slider bar to the right and you should see the default icon. By selecting it, you will default the IP camera to factory settings.
It may take a few minutes for the default setting to take place, the camera will reboot and it will come back to factory settings. After that, you can start to activate or set up the camera.
Conclusion
Doing a factory default on a Uniview camera is an easy process that can be completed in less than 5 minutes. You can do it via the web browser or the recorder.
Once done, the camera settings and accounts will revert to factory defaults. Performing a factory reset is recommended if your camera is behaving erratically.
