Hikvision camera with HDMI output (explained)

Some of the Hikvision IP security cameras come with an HDMI output on the motherboard. If you open the camera you’ll see a labeled HDMI port.

It’s possible to connect the camera straight to a TV via an HDMI cable and get the live view right away without the need of using an NVR or a computer. This feature is very convenient if you need to show the picture of a camera to a TV for live view monitoring only.

In this guide, we will demonstrate how to properly connect a Hikvision IP camera to a TV/monitor using an HDMI cable.

Before you start, you need these items available:

  • A camera that comes with an HDMI port onboard. For example, DS-2CD21x5G0-IMS supports this feature.
  • If not sure, check with your seller or on the Hikvision website.
  • A monitor with HDMI input which can be a regular TV.
  • An HDMI cable.
  • An HDMI switch cable (type D-to-type A).

How to use the HDMI out on a Hikvision camera

Step 1. Loose screws to take out the dome from the camera’s body.

However, for certain camera model you may need to do the activation first.

Additionally, you can adjust the HDMI output settings by accessing the camera directly. As shown below, you need to go to Configuration > Image > Display Settings, and on the Other section, switch to HDM_1080P or any other available option.
The built-in HDMI out on the Hikvision IP camera may be really useful in a situation where it’s more convenient to run an HDMI cable straight from the camera.
