Hikvision error code 23 is introduced when switching the recording template to “Event” on iVMS-4200 PC-NVR. This is the storage server version of the iVMS-4200, meaning the user is recording on his computer using the software (which is pulling the feed from the NVR/DVR or even directly from an IP camera).
The full error code 23 message is: Error Code HCNetSDK.dll[23].(Not supported.) It generally shows when you try to playback smart events on the playback tab of the Hikvision iVMS-4200 Storage Server software.
On the Hikvision error code book, it’s marked as “Device does not support this function”. There are two ways to solve this issue.
The problem is that you need a “Smart Device” with VCA capability to take advantage of the smart event playback feature. iVMS-4200 Storage Server does not fill this role.
A Hikvision NVR would work, or a Hikvision camera that supports VCA. Soon you’ll notice a lot of other features in iVMS won’t be working also. Like “timeline tagging”, “VCA search” etc. In other words, there’s no solution for this error code, it’s just that your equipment does not support these features.
If you indeed have a VCA-capable device then you need to modify the hard drive quota settings of iVMS-4200. Change the quota for storage to have space for additional information and pictures.
It’s also the answer to the problem of not storing or displaying alarm event photos or screen grabs. The default quota settings are 100% video, 0% images and 0% info.
The server is not going to store anything with 0% quota. You can modify it to 95% video, 4% photo, and 1% information (or to something more convenient for your needs).
