Security cameras come in various shapes, sizes and can be installed on different kinds of surfaces. Almost all the cameras are designed to use the junction boxes.
These boxes make the installation process easier and overall the camera will look neat. Inside the boxes, you can hide the wires, the connectors, and, from the security standpoint, the security camera itself will be less likely to be vandalized.
In this guide, we will show how to install a junction box on Hikvision security cameras (IP, HD-TVI). Make sure that the junction box fits right on the camera. If not sure, check the speck sheet to find out what junction box you should use.
How to install a junction box on a Hikvision camera
As we said, we assume you already have the right junction box for your camera. If not, google the camera model followed by the words “junction box”. An example is shown on this link.
Installation of Hikvision 26xx series bullet camera junction box
These are the so-called “big bullet cameras”. After the microSD card is installed, make sure that the card slot protective cover is properly installed (disregard if you don’t intend to use microSD cards).
The position of the silicone waterproof cap in the junction box should be kept the way it comes and the cable itself should be inserted after being punctured.
Carefully use the built-in punch the box to puncture the waterproof cap in the middle and pass the network cable through.
It’s recommended to use the hexagon wrench that comes with the box to puncture other waterproof caps (such as the one for the audio cable). Do not use a knife or other inappropriate tools to destroy the silicone waterproof cap.
Additionally, when passing the cable via the waterproof cap of the junction box, you should use one cable for the camera only. Don’t share them with the other cameras you might have around. In other words, one hole, one cable.
The wiring steps are shown below.
Ideas to waterproof the cable. It’s recommended to use the shield that comes with the camera or you can use electrical tape.
When installing the junction box and putting the camera base on top, make sure to use the sealing ring that comes in the box. This is a very important step and will prevent the water from going into the junction box. An example is shown below.
Installation of Hikvision 27xx series dome junction box
These are the so-called “big dome” cameras. Once the MicroSD card. After the SD card is installed, make sure that the card slot protective cover is properly installed (disregard if you don’t intend to use any microSD cards).

Installation of Hikvision 2Hxx series bullet junction box
The logic is the same when installing the junction box on these types of cameras. Once the microSD card is installed, ensure that the card slot protective cover is properly installed.
Next, when the cable passes through the silicone protective layer, the slot should be made sure to correspond to the cable one by one, so as to avoid water inflow caused by the inconsistency of the pore size.

Conclusion
There are some tricks when installing a junction box on a security camera. Follow the instructions shown below, inspect the screenshot carefully, and make sure the rubber ring is properly used. It’s very important to prevent any future water damage to the camera.
We always recommend using junction boxes when installing a CCTV security camera system. It looks good but more importantly: it increases the overall durability of your installation.
