To initiate a remote reboot of your Hikvision recorder, begin by accessing your security system through an Internet Explorer browser or a compatible web interface (Edge, Chrome or Firefox). Once logged in using your password and username, navigate to the ‘Configuration’ tab.
Note: You will need to type in the system’s external IP address in the URL bar. This should be https:EXT-IP-ADDRESS:PORT-NUMBER, for example https:134.11.xx.xxx:5001.
The port number is the HTTP port on Hikvision’s port settings and it needs to be port forwarded in the router (together with the SERVER port). Additionally, you may use a DDN domain name if you have set it up.
Under ‘Configuration,’ proceed to select ‘System’ followed by ‘Maintenance.’ Within the Maintenance section, locate and click on the ‘Reboot’ option.
This command prompts the device, situated in a remote location, to restart and subsequently resume operation.
The unit will start the reboot process which will take a few minutes. When the system is back on you can re-access it via the web browser again using the same credentials.
There are many reasons why you may need to reboot an Hikvision recorder (or any other camera recorder for that matter). These include:
Glitches or other technical issues. Sometimes, the recorder might freeze, show errors, or become unresponsive. A reboot helps fix these problems by restarting the system.
Performing updates or configurations. When you update software or change settings, a reboot ensures these changes take effect properly. Additionally, any adjustments or configurations may need a reboot in order to take effect.
Routine Maintenance. Regular reboots can enhance the overall performance of the device. NVRs are supposed to work non-stop 24 hours for months or years, overtime they may become unresponsive and routine reboot fixes such issues.
As a matter of fact, Hikvision has an option that allows the user to schedule a weekly reboot for the NVR (for example, every Saturday at 2 AM).
Why I’m not able to reboot my NVR remotely?
Access Restrictions. Check if you have the necessary permissions or administrative rights to perform a remote reboot. You need to access the unit remotely using an admin account (it won’t work for guest or basic users).
Network Problems. If there are network problems, such as a poor internet connection or disruptions in communication between your remote computer and the recorder, the remote reboot may fail.
If the recorder shows offline, or can’t be reached via the web browser, it’s possible that the unit is unresponsive, tuned off or the network cable is disconnected.
