This weird error shows when you’re trying to watch the live view video (or playback the footage) on the iVMS-4200 camera management computer application.
Instead of the video, you’ll get a spinning animation that may look like the application is loading up or struggling to run.
This error is caused by some compatibility issues between the iVMS-4200 and the computer where it’s installed. If you’re in this situation, follow these suggestions.
How to Fix the Issue of Spinning animation on iVMS-4200
Update the Windows
Make sure Windows 10 or Windows 11 has all the updates done. Go to the control panel of your computer, navigate to the Windows section and check for any available updates.
Start updating everything and then restart the computer. Run the iVMS-4200 application again and check if the pictures show up.
Check the drivers
You need to make sure that the graphic card drivers for Windows on your computer are up to date. Normally, you need to go to the Disk Management section, find the graphic card from the list, right click, and hit update. Once done, reboot to ensure the new updates are applied.
Additionally, depending on your laptop brand, or computer build/configuration, you may need to manually search the exact driver file for your graphic card.
Check the graphic card settings of your system, and then google the model followed by the driver. Ensure to download from the official website (and not some unapproved sites that may damage your computer).
Re-install the iVMS-4200
Next, you need to install the iVMS-4200 and re-install it using the latest version released from Hikvision. You can download it directly from Hikvision’s official website (or from here).
Another thing to consider, before adding any NVR, DVR system, or standalone IP cameras, go to the settings and set the Hardware Decoding to D3D11 o3 D3D9.
Follow this path, go to Maintenance and Management, click System Configuration, and then hit the Image tab. On the right side, on the Hardware line, set the mode as shown in the screenshot below (either of them).
After that, close the iVMS-4200. Make sure the service is also exited. Then do the below steps.
- Copy the “MultimediaComm.dll” typically located in “C:\Program Files (x86)\iVMS-4200 Site\iVMS-4200 Client\Client\RunInWin32” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\iVMS-4200 Site\iVMS-4200 Client\Client”.
- Then launch the IVMS-4200 again.
Try to see if the cameras show up. If still not, close the iVMS-4200 application again and run it as administrator (right click on the iVMS-4200 icon, and select “Run As Administrator”). Load up the cameras and check the live image.
If these suggestions don’t fix your issue, then it’s time to contact Hikvison technical support or your dealer/seller. Most likely their support will remotely access your computer to take a close look at the problem.
For me, the only thing that worked was install a previous version of iVMS-4200, 3.9.1.4 never worked, but 3.8.0.4 worked with fails.
