This guide shows how to fix the issue of Swann Security push notification not working on an Android phone or tablet (such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Pixel, etc). For many reasons these push notifications may stop working altogether. There are few things you need to check in order to make sure that the settings are done correctly.
Push Notification is enabled by default when you use Swann Security systems but if a permission is disabled and it doesn’t communicate with the phone app as intended, it can cause the notification to not function properly. Most of the time the notifications will work a few days then stop and start over again by itself.
Fix Swann Security Push Notification not working on Android phone or tablet
Due to many types of optimization on Android, here are some settings you need to enable in order to make this feature work as intended.
Step 1. Notification must be enabled. Select Notification (bottom-left) and make sure it is enabled (top-right).
Step 2. Address must be filled up properly. Go to Menu then select Profile. The third information is for the address. Add the correct address.
Step 3. Make sure Location permission is enabled. Still on App Info (tap and hold the Swann Security icon) then select Permission and enable Location.
Step 4. Enable Allow Background Activity. Still on App Info, select Battery and enable Allow Background Activity. Basically, you’re giving permission to the Swann app to show the notifications on your Android phone as push up alerts.
Once done, try again to see if the app is working properly and sending out the notifications. Simply make some movement in front of one of the cameras and see if you’re getting anything. If it still is not working, go back and double check each step.
Another thing to keep in mind, make sure the phone and the Swann app itself are updated to the latest version. Even the recorder/camera needs to have up-to-date firmware. It has been reported that some of the Swann NVRs and IP cameras are shipped out with software bugs.
