If you do a VCA search on the playback page of a Hikvision device and there is no event result, then you can fix it by following the instructions in this guide.
Before searching for playback video, make sure you have configured the recording schedule on the Hikvision device.
VCA, or Video Content Analysis, is a sophisticated technology that allows a surveillance system to automatically detect and analyze specific events or objects in recorded video footage.
It’s like having a vigilant virtual assistant that can recognize motion, intrusions, or other predefined events in the footage, saving you time and effort during manual searches.
When you record video with a Hikvision camera equipped with VCA capabilities, the camera continuously examines the video feed for predefined events or objects.
These events could include motion detection, line crossing, intrusion, and more, depending on your camera’s settings.
When an event is detected, the camera generates metadata associated with that event. This metadata includes crucial information such as the type of event, the exact time it occurred, and the location within the video frame.
As you start to review recorded footage, the VCA playback feature becomes incredibly valuable. Instead of manually sifting through lengthy video recordings, you can directly search for specific events using the stored metadata. This method greatly expedites the process of finding relevant portions of the footage.

Enable Dual-VCA
The first thing you should do is to confirm that the VCA is actually enabled. There are a few ways you can do it, from accessing the web service to the iVMS-4200 software.
Web Page Login: Begin by logging into your device’s web page, as illustrated in the image provided.
iVMS-4200 Login: Alternatively, if you’re using iVMS-4200, click the “Setting” button followed by “Basic Settings.”
Navigate to Configuration: Proceed to “Configuration,” then head to “Video/Audio” and select “Display Info. on Stream.”
Activate Dual-VCA: Tick the checkbox for “Enable Dual-VCA” and remember to save your changes.
Please bear in mind that after these configurations, you can initiate a VCA search via the web browser of the camera.
However, if your device falls into the DVR/NVR/HVR category, there’s one more step to ensure comprehensive functionality (read the next section).
Enable Save Camera VCA Data
If the device is DVR NVR or HVR, then you need to perform these steps as well. Initiate the process by logging into the local GU of your recording device.
Navigate to the “Configuration” button and delve into the advanced settings by selecting “Advanced.”
Within the advanced settings, enable the “Save Camera VCA Data” option.
After the above settings, search VCA playback as shown in the instructions below.
Via web browser.
Via local GUI on DVR/NVR/HVR.
If search motion detection VCA playback, Enabling Dynamic Analysis for Motion is necessary.
This feature is designed to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of motion detection in the camera’s video feed.
When “Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion” is enabled, the camera employs a more sophisticated approach to analyzing motion within its field of view.
Rather than relying solely on basic pixel changes to detect motion, this advanced method takes into account various factors such as object size, direction, speed, and trajectory.
This helps to reduce false alarms triggered by minor environmental changes, such as moving shadows or changes in lighting conditions.
