How to view the Swann DVR or NVR on SwannView Plus phone app using the QR code (UID)

In this guide we will show how to add a Swann DVR or NVR to the SwannView Plus app using the recorder’s UID (unique ID). This UID can be entered manually or by scanning the QR code of your recorder. Once you’ve added the device, you can see the cameras live or playback via your phone SwannView Link app.

You need to follow these steps to add the a Swann DVR or NVR to your phone:

1. Install SwannView Plus in your phone
2. Change the stream settings on your DVR or NVR
3. Get the DVR’s network information
4. Add the DVR or NVR to SwannView Plus app by using the QR code

How to add a Swann DVR or NVR on SwannView Plus app via QR code

Install SwannView Plus in your phone

You need the SwannView Plus app to view your cameras on the phone. To download the app, go to Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store and search for SwannView Link. Install it and run it on your phone.

Change the stream settings on your DVR or NVR

For smooth live streaming, it is highly suggested to use Substream when playing the videos. You will also need to adjust the substream’s bitrate to an appropriate level for the unit not to consume too much bandwidth. The bit rate depends on your internet’s speed for both the phone and the location where your security system is installed. You may need to play a little bit with various bitrate levels until you are satisfied.

1. Go to Menu > Record.
2. Proceed to Parameters > Substream.
3. Pick a channel on Camera.
4. Set the Video Quality to an appropriate bitrate. The better quality, the higher the bitrate and more slower
5. on the phone. The lower bitrate, the worse the picture quality but it’s smoother on the phone. Find the right balance for your setup.
6. Click on Copy to replicate the settings to other channels. A window will pop up. Tick all checkboxes to select all channels. Click on OK.
7. Click on Apply to save the settings.

Get the DVR’s network information

In this section you’ll learn how to locate the UID of your Swann DVR/NVR (the so called QR code).

1. 1. Access the Main Menu and go to Configuration > Network > General.
      
   2. Check if Enable DHCP is checked. By default, it is checked meaning it is on DHCP.
   3. You can write the UID code for you to have your own copy in case you’re away from the unit. This code the unique ID of your recorder.

Add the DVR or NVR to SwannView Plus app by using the QR code

1. Tap the 3-bar icon located at the top left.
2. Tap the third icon to go to Devices.
3. Tap on the ‘+’ icon at the upper right.
4. Enter the information it needs.
   – Alias: name your system, for example: “My Home”.
   – Register Mode: UID
   – UID: Tap the QR code icon and scan the QR code on top of the unit.
   – User Name: admin
   – Password: type the password of your DVR or NVR
5. Tap on the save ­icon at the top right. If you got any error message, try rebooting the DVR or NVR and your router or modem. Close the app and open it again.
6. Tap on Start Live View to load the cameras.
