While Vivint doorbell cameras usually work fine and without any problems, sometimes it can happen that the device displays certain issues such as not powering up, not ringing, or keeping randomly ringing, giving certain errors, glitches, delaying the ring, or acting up.
These issues may be caused by power problems, firmware glitches, misconfigurations in the settings, and other problems that may render the doorbell useless (not recording, not working).
In this guide, we will show a few methods of how to fix a Vivint doorbell that is not working properly.
How to Fix Vivint Doorbell Not Working (Proven Methods)
If your doorbell is experiencing problems, go through the suggestions listed below one by one until you have it fixed.
As we mentioned early, there are various factors that cause a doorbell not to work, simply try the following recommendations and see which one works for your case.
Check the power source
The first thing to check is if the doorbell is getting sufficient power from the power supply unit (it can be a power outlet, adapter, or battery).
Most of the time they run on batteries and you should inspect the slots to see if anything is loose or if the batteries have been properly inserted. In some cases, the batteries may have expired and the unit is no longer powered up, you need to replace them with new ones.
You have to find out the battery model, purchase new ones and then replace them. If you have any questions about the compatible batteries, simply contact Vivint’s support and provide the exact model.
If you have a wired doorbell model, trace the cables and make sure nothing is loose. Also, check the terminal connection and ensure the wires in the chime box are correctly twisted together.
Additionally, check the power outlet and see if there’s actually power in it. Sometimes the breaker may have gone off and certain outlets don’t provide power. You may use a power checker device to see the power status on the outlet powering up the doorbell.
Reset the doorbell
Sometimes random issues are solved by performing a reset (or even just restarting) the Vivint doorbell. To do so, unplug or turn it off and on again the device and see if there’s any change. Do the same thing with the router.
Another thing you can do is perform a hard reset on the doorbell. It’s similar to having it restart or forcefully reboot. Follow the steps listed below:
- Check the doorbell and locate the button with the light indicator.
- Press and hold the button for at least 15 seconds.
- The LED will cycle through multiple colors and at the end it should turn yellow twice.
- Once it blinks yellow, then the LED should become solid yellow color>
- Release the button once it goes back to white. If you keep it pressed for longer, the unit will go to factory settings and all the configurations will be erased. So be careful to release the button in time and preserve the settings. If you accidentally factory reset the camera, you will need to re-set up the camera.
- Wait until the doorbell restarts and check if the issues are resolved.
If you think the reset didn’t go through, try the steps again but this time you keep it pressed for around 20 seconds. Some models need more seconds to enter the reset mode.
If you have a Sky Control Panel that allows you to control the Vivint system device, you can restart the unit using the commands on the panel. Follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Settings and then select Displays.
- On the list, choose the doorbell icon then tap the reboot option.
- Once the reboot mode starts, the panel will be offline for 15 minutes.
- Then it will come back online and all the connections will be restored. Check to see if the issue is corrected.
Reboot the router
Sometimes the issues are caused by problems with the internet connections, no connection then the doorbell can’t work correctly (it will show online). The first thing you need to make sure the internet actually works; if there’s no internet outage in the location. You can check using your phone to see if the WiFi connects.
Then you can reboot the routes. In many cases, there are errors that accumulate over time and cause the router to lose connection or randomly disconnect. You can reboot the router by unplugging the unit, waiting at least 2 minutes, and then powering it up again.
In some router models, you may use the reset button to perform a hard reset. Once the router is back on, see if Vivint Security System is able to reconnect to it.
Contact support
Lastly, you can contact Vivint technical support line (their official phone number: 800-216-5232) and tell them the unit is unresponsive. You can also use the live chat feature which is available from 9-5 every weekday. In some cases, they can remote in and try to check the network.
Additionally, you can email Vivint at support@vivint.com for long-form tech support requests. Provide all the symptoms, network information, and model number, attach some pictures, and they’ll get back to you after a while.
Conclusion
Vivint doorbell camera might keep going offline because it’s not receiving enough power from a working outlet or it has battery issues that can only be addressed by calling a Vivint technician to replace (or repair them).
It might also have Internet connectivity issues related to your ISP having a bad connection that hour (or that particular) day. Contact your internet provider for more details.
If the issue is on Vivint’s end, you can try to fix it by restarting the panel or restarting the doorbell itself. If the unit is under the warranty, you may ask the manufacturer for a replacement.
