If you have lost or forgotten the password of your XVIM DVR, there are a few easy ways to reset the DVR’s password. One method is to use the super password app to generate a temporary master password which will allow you to reset the admin password.
The other method involves removing the battery from the motherboard and waiting a few seconds until the password is reset. Try both ways and see which one works for your recorder.
Resetting the password of the XVIM DVR will not erase any recordings or factory default the setting, it will simply allow you to create a new password. For more details and explanations follow the guide below.
Reset XVIM DVR password
Before you start, try to use the default password. Sometimes people get confused and forget the default password. For XVIM DVRs the default username is admin and the default password is 123456. For some other models, there’s no default password.
Reset the password using the Super Password Generator
As we mentioned, the easy way to reset the XVIM password is by using the super password app to generate a temporary master password. The way it works, you need to input the correct timestamp of your recorder into the password generator and the app will create a valid recovery password based on that information.
Step 1. Let’s start by downloading the supper password tool for XVIM. Click the link below, it’s portable software that doesn’t need installation. Note: you need to use a Windows computer or laptop, it won’t run on the phone.
Step 2. Check the date on your monitor/TV to where the DVR is connected to. Note the timestamp (as shown on the red box below).
Step 3. Run the super password tool, previously downloaded on step 1.
Enter the date and then click ok. It will generate a temporary super password. Use the super password to log in and it will prompt the message as shown below.
Logging into the DVR using the super password will restore the password to the default one. The recorder will auto reboot, wait until it’s back, and log in using the default account which is username: admin and password: 123456. If that doesn’t work, leave the password box empty and just click okay.
Remove the battery
This method works on certain models but it’s worth trying since it may solve your lost password issue. All the recorders are essentially small computers designed for specific tasks. As in any computer, there’s a battery on the motherboard that, if removed, may reset the password.
There are a few tricks that we will explain. Start by disconnecting the power cord from the DVR. Open up the cover of the recorder and you’ll see the motherboard. Locate the battery (a sample is shown below) and remove it for at least 60 seconds.
Then insert the battery (the correct way), plug the power, and restart the DVR. Once the recorder boots up and it asks for a password, type 000000 (6x zeros). This will allow you to login into the recorder and offer an option to modify the password.
Contact the reseller
If none of these works, contact the seller or the dealer and they should be able to help you recover the lost password. Let’s say you purchased it on Amazon, contact the seller and provide them the receipt or the order number. Normally, their support team will be able to reset the password.
Have this information ready: the order number or receipt, the serial number of the unit (check the sticker underneath the recorder), and the timestamp of the live view (check the monitor where the DVR is hooked up to).
How to set XVIM DVR password
Most of the new XVIM recorders are shipped out without any default password. When you first log in to the DVR, the default user is admin and as for the password, just leave it blank.
Since everyone can log in easily, you need to create a password. Right-click the mouse and go to the Main Menu > System > Account.
Select the first user admin. Click the “Modify Pwd” button which will prompt another window. On the Old Password box: leave it empty; New Password: create a new and strong password. Confirm the password and pretty much it’s done.
Next time you have to log in using your newly created password (not leaving it blank anymore). Ensure you remember your password. If you have any questions let us know in the comment box. Please select the first user admin
There is something wrong with at least my XVIM DVR. After creating a new password for admin I couldn’t logon again because of “wrong password”. I had to remove the password and left it blank as the manufacturer recommends. That’s not OK. And when the password was removed it also deleted all the accounts I created and left only the users admin and default, both in admin group. Now there is a loop Update-Shutdown-Reboot every 50 sec when the DVR is trying to update to the same version that is already installed. Folks if you care about security forget about XVIM and try something else.
