The Yi camera network connection failed issues are errors related to communication problems between the camera, the smartphone, and the server.
The issue shows in various situations and the most common one appears when the camera is stuck on a connecting loop. It tries to connect, but the screen is frozen, or it never goes to 100%, eventually displaying a “failed” message.
As you can see from the image, we are trying to connect the Yi camera and the progress icon is stuck at 25%. Sometimes it goes up to 99% and it never gets completed.
At the core, this kind of error is related to issues with network communication such as unstable WiFi, no service at all, or other network problems that prevent the devices from communicating with each other.
How to fix Yi camera network issues
Let’s understand how the Yi cameras work. Basically, these types of cameras require a server on the internet to reach the app on your smartphone.
So, the camera connects to the internet and communicates with the Yi server, then the Yi server communicates (or passes the information) to the phone app. It’s this three-way communication that allows the videos to be streamed on your phone.
A network connection failed error is quite broad and there are a lot of things that need to be checked. However, we can mention the most common ones and you can go through the tips until you find the solution.
First of all, check if the camera is connected to a power adapter. If all the LED lights are off, it’s possible that the camera is not powering up at all. Inspect the cables and outlets and make sure that everything is correct.
Check if your internet works fine. If you have no internet service, then the camera cannot connect to the server. Use your phone to connect to the same WiFi and open some random pages to check if the internet works. Also, you may call your ISP and ask if there’s a local outage.
Another thing you could do is reboot the router. Power off the unit, waiting at least 60 seconds and then power it back on. Wait until the status lights are green and then try to connect again. Rebooting (and restarting) the router erases various errors that prevent the connection from going through.
Check the status LED lights on the camera itself. The light should be solid blue which indicates that the connection is established. If the lights are incorrect, hard reboot the camera.
Uninstall the Yi Home app and install it again. Ensure the app, the camera, and the phone are updated to the latest software versions.
Another tip: check the WiFi band. Nowadays routers support both WiFi bands which are the 2.4GHz and 5GHz and they usually are named the same.
So, the camera may have been connected to the 2.4GHz band, while the phone to the 5GHz, and the devices cannot communicate with each other. The right way is to access the router’s settings and make a unique SSDI for each band. This way, you won’t be confused.
Also, the camera and the phone need to be connected to the same WiFi. If the phone is connected to 4G/5G or other networks, then the devices cannot communicate with each other. Pay attention to the statues LED indicators.
Lastly, if you still can’t fix this error, you can contact Yi Technology (the camera’s manufacturer) for further technical support.
Usually, they’ll take your information and call back later when a technician is available. Additionally, you may call the store/dealer where the camera was purchased from.
