If you have a Yi camera and the yellow light stays always on, it means that the camera is stuck on the initialization procedure. While Yi cameras are quite reliable and popular, they may show various errors that can be fixed easily.
For example, a common error (as shown in the picture below) is when the Yi camera is stuck on a solid yellow LED light that stays always on and compromises the function of the camera (and it’s annoying as well).
As we mentioned, a solid yellow light indicates that the camera is stuck in the initial phase and that the software is frozen.
How to fix the Yi camera stuck on the solid yellow LED light
Most of the time you can fix the stuck yellow light issue by refreshing the micro SD card. First of all, remove the current microSD card and insert it back into the camera. Make sure it’s not loose. If the problem is not solved, you can format the SD card as well.
Additionally, you need to use a micro SD that is compatible with the camera. Sometimes cheap SD cards are not reliable and experience a lot of errors, always ensure to buy micro SD cards from reputable brands. In some cases, a cheap SD card may even damage the camera.
Follow the steps below to fix the issue:
- Insert the microSD card into an adapter and then plug the adapter into a computer SD card slot.
Go to Windows Explorer, right-click on the SD card, and format it using the FAT32 file system. - Wait until it’s done. Re-insert the micro SD card into the camera’s slot (the camera should be turned off).
- Power up the camera and wait for the initialization which should go smoothly and then the solid yellow LED will disappear.
Normally, that’s all it takes to fix the issue. However, if that doesn’t work, you can always perform a factory reset on the Yi Home camera and start the process from scratch (click here to see the reset instructions).
Sometimes the settings are messed up, or the camera malfunctions, and only a reset can erase all the errors. Additionally, always make sure that the camera and the phone app are updated to the latest software version.
Bugs are quite common, and the manufacturer continuously releases new firmware to iron out previous known issues.
Lastly, you may contact Yi Technology support for further assistance (or the store/dealer where you purchased the camera from). You may need to show proof of purchase.
