How to connect an external microphone to a Hikvison camera

Many Hikvision IP cameras come with the option to plug an external microphone. This should not be confused with the Hikvision IP cameras that come with built-in mic (such as these). This article demonstrates how to connect an external (separately sold) microphone to a Hikvison camera. How to tell if your camera supports this feature? Usually Hikvision cameras which have –S in their model names support audio function (such as these cameras).

Hikvison cameras have different audio interface. Inspect your camera and take a look at the three examples shown below:

Example 1.

On the Hikvision IP cameras with model naming rule such as: 21XX. In this case, on the cameras pigtale the cable labelled “audio in” (microphone) is 11. If you see a cable named “audio out”, that’s another option to connect an external speaker. Connect your microphone to the audio in cable. Make sure to power the mic separately.

Example 2.

On the Hikvision IP cameras with model naming rule such as: 63XX. In this camera type, the “audio in” input is 9 and the “audio out input” is 10. Connect your microphone on those terminal points, power up the mic separately.

Example 3.

Hikvision also offers active microphone units such as DS-2FP2020 (see picture below), you can find three wires come with the unit. Red wire is power +, white white is audio +, black wire is Power – and Audio -. Connect Red wire with Positive power supply; connect white wire with audio in interface; and then connect black wire with negative power supply and audio GND interface together.
