Sometimes when you get the status of an Axis IP camera using an ONVIF manager, you may get an error message that reads: Error in deserializing body of reply message for operation “Get Profiles”.
For example, this message shows when trying to access the camera using software such as ONVIF Device Manager software. It may show in other scenarios as well such as when hooking up the camera with a third-party recorder or camera manager.
How to fix the deserializing error message on Axis cameras
The easy and quick method to fix this kind of error message is by performing a reset on the Axis camera and bringing it to factory default settings.
There’s an option to retain the IP address while resetting everything else.
- Access the camera via the web browser and follow these steps:
- Log into the camera via browser using your credentials
- Navigate to Settings > System > Maintenance.
- In this section, click the Restore button. (Don’t click “Default”)
- Wait until the camera goes to factory settings and reboots.
- Once the camera is online again, create a password.
- Simply follow the wizard and complete the setup.
Basically, that’s all it takes to make this error disappear and you should be able to use the camera normally. The IP address will remain the same, but the rest of the settings will reverse to the factory state.
Another thing to keep in mind, in some Axis cameras you may need to reset the unit by physically pressing the reset button. The procedure is as follows:
- Disconnect the power from the camera.
- Locate the reset button, press, and hold it.
- Hold the reset button for about 30 seconds.
- Then release the reset button.
Access the camera again and see if it asks you to create a password. If so, then the camera was actually reset. The camera’s IP address is usually 192.168.0.90.
