How to Factory Reset a Night Owl DVR (or NVR)

There are many reasons why you may need to factory reset your Night Owl DVR or NVR. If there are errors or issues with your CCTV security system, starting from scratch and having your equipment on factory default may help solve such technical issues.

Resetting your Night Owl recorder to Default Settings will not delete the recordings in the DVR/NVR’s hard drive. Only the System’s settings will go back to the factory settings, the footage itself will still be there.

Once the factory reset is done, you can create a new password for your machine. Below we’ve listed the factory reset steps for various Night Owl DVRs or NVRs.

Night Owl Factory Reset procedure

Factory reset for AHD10, HDA10, HDA30, NVRH5, NVR IH8, NVR IC8 Series

Applicable to these Night Owl models: DVR-AHD10B-41, DVR-AHD10B-RS, DVR-AHD10B-81-RS-2, DVR-HDA10PB-8, DVR-BBHDA10PB-82, DVR-HDA10PB-82, DVR-BBHDA10PB-81, DVR-HDA10PB-162, DVR-HDA10PB-161, DVR-HDA10LB-161, DVR-HDA10LB-81, DVR-HDA30B-162, NVR-IH802-8, NVR-IH802-16, NVR-IH804-16, NVR-IH808-16, NVR-IC802-8 NVR-IC802-16.

  1. Go to DVR/NVR Main Menu (You may need to log in after this step).
  2. Click on Advanced Tab.
  3. Maintain Tab will appear by default.
  4. On this screen locate the Load Default option and click on it.
  5. Select “All” to factory reset all your DVR/NVR Settings and click on Save.
  6. Your system may restart after this step (Older systems do not restart).

Factory reset for Night Owl THD Series DVR

Applicable to these Night Owl models: DVR-THD15W-45, DVR-THD30B-81, DVR-THD50B-81, DVR-THD80B-82.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the screen and the drop-down menu will appear.
  2. Click on Main Menu (you may need to log in after this step).
  3. Go to the Maintenance option.
  4. Click on Default Sub-tab. On this screen, click on Factory Defaults to restore all parameters to default settings.
  5. Your system will restart after this step.

Factory reset for Night Owl XHD Series DVR

Applicable to these Night Owl models: DVR-X3-81, DVR-X3-8, DVR-X3-161, DVR-X3-16, DVR-XHD20W-41, DVR-XHD50B-41, DVR-XHD50B-81, DVR-XHD50B-82.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the screen and the quick launch bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Click on Main Menu (You may need to log in after this step).
  3. .Click on Advanced Tab.
  4. Maintain Tab will appear by default.
  5. On this screen locate the Load Default option and click on.
  6. Select All to factory reset all your DVR Settings and click OK.
  7. Your system will restart after this step.

Factory reset for the Night Owl WNVR Series

Applicable to these Night Owl models: WNVR-20B-4, WNVR-20B-8.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the screen and the quick launch bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Click on Main Menu (You may need to log in after this step)
  3. Go to Maintain Tab.
  4. Select Factory Default Sub-tab on the left menu
  5. On this screen, Select All to factory reset all your NVR Settings and click on Apply
  6. Your system will restart after this step
