When using Hikvision cameras or recorders, you may notice green boxes or lines appearing on the live view.
These overlays are visual indicators used to show areas where motion or rule detection events have been triggered.
The green boxes indicate motion detection events, while the blue lines indicate rule detection events, such as line crossing or intrusion detection.
If you prefer not to see these overlays on the live view, you can disable them by adjusting the settings.
How to Remove Green Boxes or Blue Lines in Hikvision Devices?
If you want to get rid of these green boxes or blue lines, you can usually do so through the camera or recorder’s settings. Below are the general steps to disable motion detection overlays and the Rules’ lines.
Step 1. To begin, open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the Hikvision camera or recorder. Enter the device’s IP address in the browser’s address bar and press Enter.
This should bring up the login page for the device’s configuration menu. Enter your unit’s username and password.
The green boxes or lines that appear on the live view of Hikvision recorders or cameras are typically called motion detection overlays.
They are visual indicators used to show areas where motion has been detected by the camera’s motion detection feature. When movement occurs within the designated regions, the green boxes or lines appear to highlight the affected areas.
Step 2. Navigate to Configuration > Local and change the Rules from Enable to Disable and then click Save. (As shown in the screenshot below).
You also can tweak this setting by accessing the NVR directly. The option is usually located under the Rules section (sometimes labeled “Smart Functions”, or “AI”), untick the Show Rules or Dynamic Analysis Mode.
In Hikvision devices, “Rules” refer to specific parameters and conditions that are set up to trigger certain events or actions.
These rules are often associated with advanced video analytics features and are used to enhance the functionality and effectiveness of the surveillance system.
The rules can be configured to detect specific events or behaviors, such as line crossing, intrusion, object detection, or facial recognition.
The triggering of rules in Hikvision devices typically relies on video analytics algorithms that analyze the video feed in real-time.
These algorithms process the video frames and apply pattern recognition techniques to detect specific events or conditions based on the configured rules.
When a rule is triggered, the device responds by generating an event or action. This can include actions like sending notifications or alerts, activating alarms, initiating video recording, or executing predefined automation tasks.
In some models, you may need to disable the Motion Detection Alarm mode that causes the unit to display the flashing green boxes on the screen.
Navigate to the motion detection settings. This may be located under the “Event” or “Alarm” section of the menu, but the exact location can vary depending on the device model and firmware version.
Look for an option related to motion detection overlays or visual indicators. The option may be named “Motion Detection Overlay,” “Motion Detection Display,” or “Dynamic Analysis”. Some re-brands may use other words to describe the function.
Disable or turn off the motion detection overlay feature (uncheck the box). Save the changes and exit the configuration menu.
Once you’ve completed these steps, the green boxes or lines should no longer appear on the live view of your Hikvision camera or recorder when motion is detected (shown with the green boxes) or when the rules are triggered (shown as blue lines on the screen).
Keep in mind that the specific steps may vary slightly depending on the model and firmware version of your device, so it’s always a good idea to consult the user manual or Hikvision’s official documentation for detailed instructions.
