Certain Hikvision NVRs offer a very useful feature called “enhanced PoE”. In some cases, you may need to install a camera further than the usual recommended 100 meters (330 feet) from the NVR.
The I and K series PoE NVRs support extending POE transmission distance from 100 meters (330ft) to 250 meters (820ft) with Cat5e cable or 300 meters (980ft) with Cat6 cable.
So, if you need certain IP cameras to run farther, then you can enable the enhanced PoE feature and provide more juice for the cameras.
To enable the enhanced PoE feature, for GUI Version 3 recorders, go to Menu- Camera > Camera > PoE configuration and select on for the IP cameras connected with a long network cable (more than 100 meters).
For GUI Version 4 recorders (the new Hikvision interface), go to Go to Camera > Camera > PoE Settings and select Long Distance for the cameras connected with a long network cable. Click Apply to save the settings
Important note: When enabling the enhanced POE function, the maximum bitrate of the port will be reduced to 10Mbps.
It is recommended that the camera’s bitrate is set to 6Mbps to allow for any spikes in bandwidth due to changes in the monitored scene.
When bitrate is changed, the image quality may be affected. If the camera power consumption is less than 8W and it supports PoE, we can say it most likely will support an enhanced POE connection with the NVR.
