In this article, we’ve listed the maximum hard drive size per drive for different Hikvision NVR and DVR series. As you know, each recorder unit comes with hard drive slots and certain sizes are supported only.
If you’re wondering what maximum hard drive size is allowed for your unit, take a look below and locate your model. For example, if it says max 10TB, it means you can install on it any hard drive that is 10TB or less than that. This size is per hard drive. If your recorder takes two HDD, then each can be 10TB (if that’s the maximum size).
When buying hard drives for security camera systems (DVR, NVR) make sure to go for surveillance-rated hard drives. They’ll last longer, be more reliable, and are specifically designed and manufactured to work with CCTV recorders. The desktop may work temporarily, but will get damaged after a few months and will need to be replaced (and you’ll lose the recordings as well).

Important notes:
- I series NVR – DS-77xxNI-I4 and DS-76xxNI-I2 support up to 8TB if the firmware is below 4.40 and up to 10TB if the firmware is 4.40 or above.
- The hard disks used for RAID configuration must be either enterprise-class hard drive or the hard drive support RV sensors.
