Default Ports for Hikvision NVR

in Hikvision

Hikvision is one the most popular and reliable brands in CCTV security systems. What are the ports for Hikvision NVR? What’s the default http and server port? Read this article to find out what the port numbers are for Hikvision NVR and how you can modify them.
The port numbers are needed when you’re about to do port forwarding in your router. You need this information in order to open these ports and enable remote viewing. It is only necessary to open TCP ports from the above range as Hikvision products do not use UDP for communications.

Default ports for Hikvision NVR and DVR

These are the default ports on a Hikvision NVR or DVR:

  • HTTP port: 80 (this is the port used to access the recorder locally or remotely via web browser)
  • Server port: 8000 (this is the port used by the phone app)
  • RTSP port: 554 (this is the port used for live streaming. Read more here.)
  • HTTPS port: 443 (this is the HTTP port if you have installed an SSL Certificate on the recorder).

How to change the ports on a Hikvision NVR?

It’s recommended to modify the ports on your recorder for security reasons. Never leave the default ports, especially if you have decided to expose your NVR on the internet. The port range can be anything between 1-65535.

Change the Hikvison ports via web browser

Login to your NVR (or DVR) via the web browser. Type the IP address or the DDNS address on the url bar then enter your username and password. Navigate to Configuration > Network > Basic Settings and select the Ports tab. As you can see in the picture you can modify them as you wish. For example in our case, the http port is 82.

Change the Hikvision ports directly on the NVR

You can change these ports locally as well. Right-click with your mouse, go to the Main Menu, then login with your username and password. Navigate to the Configuration section and after that click the Network tab.

On the top, you need to select the Ports tab. In some recorders, the ports are located under Other Settings. As you see from the picture below you can easily modify these ports. Click Apply to save the settings.

How to do port forwarding?

Port forwarding should only be used when the devices need to be accessed via the internet. There are two ways to open up the ports for your Hikvision device.

The first and the easy way is by using the UPnP function. In this case, the router should support this method, basically, the recorder will open up the ports by itself, without any extra configuration on the user’s part. The second way is to open up the ports manually on your router. Consult this guide for the full instructions.
