Guarding Vision is a phone app used by Hikvision devices (NVR, DVR, IP cameras) which are OEM non-branded or third party brand names. On this app you can view the camera, playback, backup on the phone and perform other various tasks.
Additionally, there’s another useful feature on this app, you can reset the lost password of your NVR, DVR or IP camera by scanning the QR code with the Guarding Vision app. In this guide we will show the steps on how to reset the password of a NVR using the Guarding Vision app.
Keep in mind that not all the NVRs or DVR support this reset method. Only the newest generation can be reset this way and most importantly you must have checked the “Reserved Email Settings” option when you activated the device for the first time.
If you still can’t reset the password for your Hikvision OEM device, then take a look at these other reset guides: Reset Hikvision password (for IP camera and NVR/DVR) or How to reset a Hikvision IP camera to factory default.
Reset the NVR password using Guarding Vision
Initial setup for enabling password reset from Guarding Vision app
In order to reset the password of your NVR or camera using the Guarding Vision app, you need to have the “Reserved Email Settings” enabled when you activate the device. Otherwise, this password reset won’t work.
Step 1. During the initial device setup, make sure the “Reserved Email Settings” option is checked (as shown on the picture). The initial setup is the first time you run the camera when you activate it by creating your username and password.
Step 2. Since the “Reserved Email Settings option” is enabled, the following screen as shown in the figure below should appear. Type the email address that you wish to receive a password reset verification code.
Make sure you’re using a valid email address that you have access to. Type it slowly and carefully to avoid any possible mistake.
Reset the NVR password using Guarding Vision app
Step 1. Run the NVR or DVR that you’ve lost the password. On the login screen, click the “Forgot Password” button.
Step 2. On the following screen as shown in picture below, select “Verify by Reserved Email” and click “OK”.
Step 3. On the next screen, you’ll see a QR code displayed on the monitor. Step 4. Open up the Guarding vision app on your phone and go to More and then tap Reset Device Password.
Step 5. Point your phone to the monitor and scan the QR Code shown on the NVR screen. You should see a message as shown in the figure below: “The request for resetting the password is sent to the server. And a security code for verification will be sent to your registered email”.
Basically, the Guarding Vision will communicate with the server and authenticate the request. Once the reset password is permitted, the app will automatically email a reset code to the email address used on the initial setup of your device.
Step 6. Check your email to find the verification code and enter the code in the field provided and click on “OK”.
If the reset code is correct, the NVR will give you the option to create a new password for the admin account. Once done, the recorder will reboot and you can use the new password to login to your NVR.
