There are a few ways to set up a Hikvision WiFi camera. You can do it via a laptop as shown in this guide: How to set up a Hikvision WiFi camera. Or you can set it up directly using the phone.
In this guide, we will show step by step how to set up and connect a Hikvision WiFi camera using the phone web browser. To follow this method, you need to have a WiFi router and a mobile phone. For more details, read the next part.
How to set up a Hikvision WiFi camera via the phone’s web browser
The logic is the same, instead of using the laptop and going through the SADP, we will use the phone’s own web browser.
Step 1. Let’s start by connecting the smartphone to the access point of the WiFi camera (enable the WLAN on the phone).
Then select the HAP_xxxxxx from the WiFi list. Each Hikvision IP camera has a unique access point SSID named HAP_xxxxxx. HAP stands for “Hikvision Access Point” and the xxxxxx part stands for the verification code, which you can find on the device label. (This article explains how to find the Hikvision verification code).
Once you do that, enter the access point password. This password is the last 8 characters of the serial number on the label. For example, if the device serial number is D12345678, then the access point password is 12345678.
Below we’ve shown a sample where you can locate the serial number on the camera. Inspect your camera’s label closely to get the correct information.
Step 2. In this step, we need to connect the WiFi camera to the WiFi router (the local internet). The browser on the smartphone will automatically open after the phone is connected to the access point of the camera.
If not, you can manually open the browser on your mobile phone, tap the “Refresh button” and then select the WiFi that the camera needs to connect to.
After that, you need to enter the password of the WiFi. The indicator light of the camera slowly flashing blue means Wi-Fi connected. So if you see the flashing blue, it means the camera is connected to the WiFi.
Step 3. Connect the camera to the NVR. The recorder needs to be on the same network segment as the WiFi camera (same IP address format). Then you need to activate the camera via the NVR and add it to the recorder. You will see the camera’s live feed there.
In other words, the camera will behave the same way as it was connected to the NVR via a cable. If this method doesn’t work for you, try to set up the WiFi camera via a laptop (the article linked at the top of this guide). Usually using a laptop is a little bit easier.
Note: Even if the camera is not a Hikvision one, the steps and the logic is similar across all the CCTV system manufacturers.
