Wyze Cam is a cheap popular smart camera that is easy to connect and watch on smartphones. But, can you see a Wyze cam on a computer? How to watch a Wyze cam on a laptop or desktop computer?
Yes, it’s doable, you can view a Wyze cam on a computer by using an emulator or the RTSP protocol. Below we’ve listed all the steps you need to follow and get the Wyze cam on a desktop/laptop computer.
How to view Wyze cam on a computer (PC)
Wyze cam on PC using BlueStacks
Install BlueStacks on your PC
To use the Wyze Cam app on the computer, you need to have BlueStacks installed on your computer. If this is your first time hearing about BlueStacks, it is basically an Android emulator that allows users to download, install, and use Android apps on their computer/PC.
In other words, Bluestack will create a phone-like environment on your PC and let you install any apps. BlueStacks is absolutely free to download.
You can get the installation file on their website (download here). Once you’ve downloaded it, install it on your computer and run the program.
Create an account on BlueStacks
When you run the BlueStack software, it will ask you to log in or create a new account. Well, since you don’t have an account, click on register and create one following the prompts. Once you do that, log in to the software.
Download the Wyze Cam app
Once you are logged in on the BlueStack app, there will be a tab for the Play Store. Select the tab and search for “Wyze App”. Basically, you’re searching the Google store for Wyze’s Android app.
You will see the Play Store’s page for Wyze, click “Install” and wait a few minutes until the installation is done. Then click “Open App” which will bring you to the Wyze App login screen (just like you would on a smartphone).
On the Wyze app, log in to your Wyze accounts using your camera credentials. Then the Wyze app will run just like it would on a phone, except it’s running on the computer.
From there, you can go full screen on the live view, playback, or do other stuff. The app runs smoothly and you can even have multi-screens.
Note: You may experience issues with the app after a while which means you need to update the app (as there are frequent improved releases by Wyze).
From various reports, it’s far easier to uninstall the app from Bluestack and have it installed fresh than updating it via the emulator.
Watch Wyze cam on PC using the RTSP protocol
It’s possible to directly watch the live stream of your Wyze cam. Before we start, make sure to install the VLC media player on your computer first (it’s free and easy to install).
Step 1. To allow your Wyze Cam to stream live videos, first, you need to turn on the Real-Time Streaming Protocol. You can do so by opening Settings and selecting Advanced Settings and then RTSP.
If you can’t see such an option, maybe your camera doesn’t support this feature or it’s not updated to the latest version. So, update the camera and check with the manual if it supports the RTSP protocol.
Step 2. Type your username and password, and then click on Generate URL. You now have an RTSP URL that you can use to stream the video on any device.
The best way to stream it to your desktop or laptop computer is through the VLC media player. Enable streaming on VLC as follows:
- Open the VLC player.
- Select Media.
- Select Open Network Stream.
- Enter or paste the URL you’ve obtained in the previous step.
- Click on Play to start streaming.
And voila, that’s all. If you’ve done everything correctly, the VLC will immediately start streaming. Keep in mind that the stream may have up to a 10-second delay. If that’s unacceptable for you, try to use the emulator method (BlueStack).
Conclusion
Here we showed two easy methods to view the Wyze camera on PC, one method using the BlueStack emulator and the other one using the RTSP protocol on the VLC video player.
Which of these methods is better depends on your preference. Using the BlueStack method gives you more control over the video feed and the options, while the second one may have a few seconds delay (still smooth though). Anyway, hope you’re finally able to get that Wyze cam live video on PC.
